In the Old Testament God had instructed Noah to build an ark. The earth was corrupt in God’s sight and filled with wickedness. God decided to put an end to every living creature and destroy the earth. (Genesis 6 HSB). Since Noah had found favor in God’s sight despite those around him, He told Noah everything on earth would die but established a covenant with him. After building the ark, he was to enter it with his wife, his sons and his sons wives and a select number of animals, two of each, a male and female. He obeyed God’s orders and did exactly that.
People likely mocked him and laughed as he built the ark. They must have considered him to be a fool, until that flood came. Noah, his family and the animals were safely packed away within the ark. God allowed a great flood to consume all the land. The Bible says the flood continued for 40 days on the earth. “Everything with the breath of the spirit of life in its nostrils every thing on dry land died“. (Genesis 7 HSB) The waters continued to surge each day however Noah and all with him were safe inside ark, covered by the protection of God.
The rain fell for forty days and forty nights but as we know when God allowed the flood to subside Noah landed where God intended him, his family and the animals to be. God made a promise to Noah. “And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between Me and you and every living creature with you….My (rain)bow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth….water with never again become a flood to destroy every creature (Genesis 9:12-17).
As I drove in my car today, all I could think about was how the heavy rains had pretty much ruined the gorgeous sunny day that had appeared earlier. But I looked up as i was driving and saw the most beautiful rainbow ever. It had green, and purple, and blue, and yellow. It took my breath away. I thought about God, His promise to Noah and how I too am apart of that bloodline. This is evident through my Salvation and connection with my Savior Jesus Christ. I am His heir, His daughter, His significant and unique creation meant to be born on this earth for His glory and purpose.
Some days these affirmations are quite powerful and I believe them. And others, they can seem as if they are simply mere words you may hear at a Sunday sermon. Living is not just living anymore. If you’re a Christian nowadays can feel more like survival. Today, the world is becoming the mirror image of the wicked earth God decided to put to an end. I am bombarded with images of one-sided bias views on the news, people strongly suggesting how I should think based on my skin color and gender, church closings, health concerns, the list goes on. Anyone with a beating heart would find this overwhelming. But when I looked at that rainbow, I thought “that’s mine”. I rolled my window down and began screaming “Hallelujah, thank you Jesus!”
My reminder today: God did not intend the usage of the rainbow to be anything else outside of His covenant with His people. He has not forgotten me and all other believers who still believe in His promise. He has a purpose for me and will not leave me(Psalm 138:8 HSB).
Repent from sin and turn to Him because God, not a protest, not a de-fund campaign, not a mask (2 Chronicles 7:14 HSB) is the Only one who can Save me and you.
In case you too were looking for some sense of peace today, sharing this very special reminder from God.
With Love,
Missy Anne
